I Screen, You Screen!

I've needed a place to keep my earring for a while and finally got around to doing something about it! I've seen these window screen earring holders on pinterest and thought I'd try it out myself. So I took myself down to the local hardware store to get some window screen for the whoppin price tag of $1.24...gotta love my local True Value! Next I was off to find a frame, enter H2O (Help and Hope to Others). This is seriously a gold mine! I have another find to share tomorrow and you're not going to believe it! Ok, back to my frame. I picked this beaut up for $1

Next, I peeled the paper backing and tape off. Not as easy as it sounds, that sucker was taped on pretty good!

I took all the contents and glass out until it was a lonely wood frame.

I headed out to the garage to choose my paint and low and behold I had 4 cans of paint(all in different colors)with NO PAINT left!

Knowing my motivation to finish this project would go as quickly as it came, I quickly searched for another can of paint...and what I found was metalic silver! It was sitting there in the bottom of the hubs work bench calling my name

I sprayed it down, let it dry, then stapled the window screen to the back of the frame with a staple gun. And...Voila!

I LOVE IT! It's so easy to keep track of my earrings now and find I wear them more often now that I can see them all!

A Kitchen For Lu!

My friends....I LOVE wood play kitchens! I'm not a big fan of the plastic versions availalbe in every big box store. Now, don't get me wrong, some are cute and take a beating well I'm sure, but I like the realistic and traditional look and functionality of the wood ones. In fact I LOVE Pottery Barn's version here. But $699.00!!!! I think I might have a heart attack! My first car was $400!

So, I decided to do something myself. As I searched online for DIY play kitchens I found lots of adorable ideas and inspiration. So, I went in search of a cabinet and found one for $1 at our MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) garage sale...SCORE! I snatched it up and brought it home to paint. I knew I wanted a robbin's egg blue and had a bunch of leftover paint form various projects around the house. Next thing you know I have a "custom" robbin's egg blue that I'm afraid I'll never be able to recreate! LOL!

Next I needed to find something I could use as burners. Enter a set of black coasters form walmart. I think I paid $4 and change total. I screwed the coasters into the top of the cabinet and tada, burners!

Last, I went in search of a sink and faucet. I mentioned something to my MIL and she had the perfect sink just waiting to be used...a small pink metal plant holder! I found a faucet at my local Habitat for Humanity ReStore for $5 and my kitchen was complete! I found the basket underneath at my local Fred Meyer on clearance for $3.89!

I'd say not bad for a grand total of $11, huh?

Now I still have plans to add a little ruffle skirt on the bottom and towel rack, but it's functional for now and Little L seems to like it!

I'm linking up with The Shabby Creek Cottage for Transformation Thursday!

Welcome...

So fitting... as I begin my journal of "sarahdipity," it begins on this note.

It is a beautiful sunny 1st day of November here on the west coast, but the sun was not shining so bright in the O household this morning. In fact, a crime scene began to appear in a matter of minutes. What lies before you is the crime of a mischevious 2 year old. Her weapon of choice...BLOOD RED NAIL POLISH!

My darling littlest decided it might be fun to "paint." As the rest of the family was preparing for school and work, this little one was busy with her own agenda.

Notice the beautiful "eyeliner"?

What makes me laugh (after of course screaming, crying, yelling, and plain feeling sorry for myself) is her self awareness to place the empty bottle of polish back in the cabinet...after all who would notice?

2 bottles of acetone later, I have a half pink floor and rose colored cabinets. Just a reminder of "happy accidents."
